How the layout is calculated
The sheet is 1800 × 1200 pixels, which is 6 × 4 inches at 300 dots per inch — the resolution photo printers use. For a 2 × 2 inch photo (600 × 600 pixels) the tool fits three across and two down: six photos with no wasted paper and the cut lines exactly on the photo edges. For 35 × 45 mm (413 × 531 pixels) it fits four across and two down — eight photos with a small even margin between them. For the Canadian 50 × 70 mm size it turns the sheet portrait and fits two by two. The count is shown on the sheet button before you download.
Every copy is the same image, so any two of them are 'identical' in the sense that application forms require. The resolution is written into the file, which is what tells the kiosk software to print at actual size.
Using the sheet
Download it, then order a standard 4×6 print — at a kiosk, through a pharmacy's photo app for pickup, or from any online lab. Turn off automatic cropping and enhancement, which would shift the lines or change the background. Cut along the grey lines. The printing walkthrough has each step at a kiosk.
Printing at home
An inkjet with photo paper works if you print at actual size: in the print dialog choose 4×6 paper, 100 % scale or 'actual size', no fit-to-page, best photo quality. Measure the first print with a ruler before cutting — a driver that silently scales to 97 % produces photos that are 1.94 inches, which an acceptance agent will refuse.
Frequently asked questions
Can I get a blank template to paste my own photo into?
You do not need one — the tool lays out your finished photo automatically and the measurements are already checked. A blank template would make you do the cropping by hand.
Why are there no gaps between the 2×2 photos?
Three 2-inch photos are exactly 6 inches wide and two are exactly 4 inches tall, so they fill the sheet. The cut lines sit on the shared edges.
Can I put two different people on one sheet?
Not in this version — one sheet is one person. Make a sheet for each person; each is a separate cheap print.
